“…Globally, it can be stated that the intake of these food groups in the analysed studies is on an average (e.g. Bailey et al, 2019a, b; Wali et al, 2018) to below average level (Bailey et al, 2019c;Denham et al, 2018). In comparative studies, we can see that the consumption of fruits and vegetables is worse in stroke survivors compared to the healthy group.…”

“…In the Australian intervention study (n = 19), the baseline satisfactory consumption of fruit and vegetables was found in only one respondent (5.3%), and unsatisfactory consumption in 18 respondents (94.7%) -unsatisfactory intake was defined as consuming less than 2 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables per day (Denham et al, 2018).…”

“…However, future implementation of this approach requires greater economic scrutiny over more opportunistic screening at the time of initial hospital management. AuSCR allows direct contact to be made to individuals who had expressed interest in future research, but the 18% response was lower than we had expected (17). This likely reflects our retrospective interrogation of the database for timely identification of a cohort of adequate sample size which consequently delayed the time from the index stroke event, raising the potential for compromised interest and changes to mailing addresses.…”

“…This assumes a correlation between the baseline and follow-up HRQoL of 0.6, and a standard deviation of 24 points. Pilot data suggest that approximately 40% of participants recruited at baseline will complete follow-up at 6 months and, therefore, the research team aim to recruit 530 eligible consenting participants at baseline [27].…”
