INTRODUCTION:The detection of estrogen, progesterone and HER-2 neu receptors on the surface of the tumour cell is a significant prognostic factor, alone or in combination. The presence or absence of receptors on the surface of the tumour cell is associated with the conditional gene expression in the tumour cell itself. Based on these genetically determined expressions of the tumour cell, five molecular subtypes of breast cancer have been classified on the St. Gallen International Expert Consensus in 2011 that can be immunohistochemically detected, with each subtype manifesting certain prognosis and aggression.AIM:Analyzing the presentation of molecular subtypes of breast cancer that are immunohistochemically detected in surgically treated patients at the Clinic for Thoracic and Vascular Surgery.MATERIAL AND METHODS:We used the international classification on molecular subtypes of breast cancer which divides them into: Luminal A (ER+ and/or PR+, HER-2 negative, Ki-67 < 14%), Luminal B with HER-2 negative (ER+ and/or PR+, HER-2 negative, Ki-67 ≥ 14%), Luminal B with HER-2 positive (ER+ and/or PR+, HER-2+, any Ki-67), HER-2 enriched (ER-, PR-, HER-2+), and basal-like (triple negative) (ER-, PR-, HER-2 negative, CK5/6+ and/or EGFR+). A total of 290 patients, surgically treated for breast cancer, were analysed during 2014.RESULTS:In our analysis, we found that Luminal A was present in 77 (26.55%) patients, Luminal B HER-2 negative was present in 91 (31.38%) patients, Luminal B HER-2 positive was present in 70 (24.14%) patients, HER-2 enriched was present in 25 (8.62%) patients and basal-like (or triple negative) was present in 27 (9.31%) patients.CONCLUSION:Detecting the subtype of breast cancer is important for evaluating the prognosis of the disease, but also for determining and providing an adequate therapy. Therefore, determining the subtype of breast cancer is necessary for the routine histopathological assay.

Triple negative breast cancer ( TNBC ) represents an aggressive phenotype with poor prognosis compared with ER , PR, and HER 2‐positive tumors. TNBC is a heterogeneous disease, and gene expression analysis has identified seven molecular subtypes. Accumulating evidence demonstrates that long non‐coding RNA (lnc RNA ) are involved in regulation of gene expression and cancer biology, contributing to essential cancer cell functions. In this study, we analyzed the expression profile of lnc RNA in TNBC subtypes from 156 TNBC samples, and then characterized the functional role of Lnc KLHDC 7B ( ENSG 00000226738 ). A total of 710 lnc RNA were found to be differentially expressed between TNBC subtypes, and a subset of these altered lnc RNA were independently validated. We discovered that Lnc KLHDC 7B ( ENSG 00000226738 ) acts as a transcriptional modulator of its neighboring coding gene KLHDC 7B in the immunomodulatory subtype. Furthermore, Lnc KLHDC 7B knockdown enhanced migration and invasion, and promoted resistance to cellular death. Our findings confirmed the contribution of Lnc KLHDC 7B to induction of apoptosis and inhibition of cell migration and invasion, suggesting that TNBC tumors with enrichment of Lnc KLHDC 7B may exhibit distinct regulatory activity, or that this may be a generalized process in breast cancer. Additionally, in silico analysis confirmed for the first time that the low expression of KLHDC 7B and Lnc KLHDC 7B is associated with poor prognosis in patients with breast cancer.

El cáncer de mama es el cáncer más frecuente en las mujeres y constituye un problema de salud pública debido a sus altas tasas de morbimortalidad. El diagnóstico se hace a través de estudios rutinarios de histopatología que se complementan con estudios de expresión de receptores hormonales (Receptores de Estrógenos y Progesterona), del factor de crecimiento epidérmico humano 2 (HER2) e índice de proliferación celular (Ki67) para su subtipificación en grupos moleculares (Luminal A, Luminal B, Her2 y triple negativo), los cuales tienen implicaciones pronósticas y terapéuticas diferentes. Globalmente, se ha reportado una alta prevalencia del subtipo Luminal A, predominantemente en Norteamérica, Europa y algunos países latinoamericanos, sin embargo, los reportes en la población colombiana son heterogéneos. El objetivo de esta investigación es establecer un perfil de incidencia de dichos subtipos moleculares en una población del eje cafetero en Colombia. Retrospectivamente se analizaron muestras de 377 pacientes con diagnóstico de cáncer de mama infiltrante, entre los años 2015 a 2018. Los diagnósticos histológicos incluyeron: Carcinomas Ductal infiltrante NOS (339 casos; 89.9 %), lobulillar infiltrante (23 casos; 6.1 %), mucinoso infiltrante (6 casos; 1.5 %), papilar infiltrante (1 caso; 0.2 %) y patrones mixtos: ductal-lobulillar (3 casos; 0.7 %) y ductal con componente mucinoso (5 casos; 1.3 %), de los cuales 56.2 % (212 casos) corresponden a luminal B, 22.2 % (84 casos) a Luminal A, 14.8 % (56 casos) a triple negativo y 6.6 % (25 casos) a HER2. Estos hallazgos contrastan con la prevalencia reportada a nivel mundial. Por lo tanto, en la población del eje cafetero colombiano, se debe considerar este predominio del patrón luminal B al momento de establecer pronóstico y tratamiento por parte del personal médico tratante.
