Abstract: We observed that brachial plexus blockade by the posterior approach is associated with a high prevalence of diaphragmatic paralysis, even with low concentrations of local anesthetics.

“…Paralysis of the diaphragm was the first factor. Although it was not diagnosed by an imaging exam (ultrasound, radioscopy, or chest X-ray), we think that it was present due to its high prevalence (up to 100%) after high brachial plexus blocks 17 . Residual neuromuscular blockade, diagnosed clinically, was the second factor.…”

“…Recently, the posterior brachial plexus block, also known as paravertebral cervical block, has received wide attention [1][2][3]7,27,28 . Different volumes of anesthetic have already been employed, but there is no definition of the ideal volume.…”
