ÖzGeleceğin sağlık profesyonelleri olacak hekim, diş hekimi, eczacı, hemşire ve ebe adaylarının ve ilgili fakültelerdeki öğretim elemanlarının sigara içme alışkanlıkları ve nikotin bağımlılıklarının ölçülmesi, sigaranın öğrencilere ve öğretim elemanlarına durağan maliyetinin hesaplanması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamına Marmara Üniversitesi Tıp, Diş Hekimliği, Eczacılık Fakülteleri ve Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik-Ebelik Bölümü'ndeki öğrenciler ile öğretim elamanları dâhil edilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak Fagerstrom nikotin bağımlılık testi (FNBT), sosyo-demografik ve maliyet ölçmeye yarayan sorular uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerin %22'sinde ve öğretim elemanlarının %36,8'inde sigara alışkanlığı saptanmıştır. İki prevalans arasında anlamlı fark vardır (t=11,08; p<0,05). Öğrencilerin FNBT puanı ortalaması 4,1±1,9 iken öğretim üyelerinin FNBT puanı ortalaması 6,6±2,3 dur. Her iki ortalama arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark vardır (t=8,37; p<0,05). Yapılan hesaplamalara göre öğrenci yıllık gelirinin 1/4'ünü, öğretim elemanı ise 1/5'ini sigaraya ayırmaktadır. Bu çalışmada sadece durağan maliyet hesaplanmıştır; dolaylı maliyet hesaplanmamıştır. Sağlık alanında eğitim veren ve öğrencilere örnek olan öğretim elemanlarının sigara bırakmayı teşvik edici çalışmalara destek verebilmeleri için öncelikle kendilerinin sigarayı bırakmaları gereklidir. Anahtar Sözcükler: Sigara, Maliyet, Fagerstrom nikotin bağımlılık testi ABSTRACTIt was aimed in this study to quantify smoking habits and nicotine dependency of future health care professionals such as doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, and midwives, as well as academic members of associated faculties and to calculate the economic steady cost of smoking. Students in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, and Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nursing and Midwifery and faculty members in Marmara University were included in the study. As a means of data collection, Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence (FTND), and questionnaire including questions about socio-demographic data and cost of smoking were performed. Prevalence of smoking was found 36,89% for faculty members and 22,02% for students; there was significant difference between these two groups (t=11,08; p<0,05). The mean FTND score of the students and faculty members was 4,1±1,9, and 6,6±2,3, respectively. There was also statistically significant difference between the mean FTND scores of two groups (t=8,37; p<0,05). According to calculations, students and faculty members spends 1/4 and 1/5 -of their income to smoking, respectively. Only steady costs were calculated in this study; indirect costs of smoking were not included. Teaching staff of health care education like a medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing and midwifery in university need to quit smoking themselves in order to encourage smoking cessation. Introduction: Smoking remains to be a main cause of preventable death and illness in both developing and developed countries. The high prevalence of smoking consumption contributes to significant healthrelated diseases. While the rate of smoking use is reducing in most countries, Pacific countries still have a high smoking prevalence. ÖzAmaç: Sigara dünyada önlenebilir ölüm nedenlerinin başında gelmektedir. Türkiye'de tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin sigara içme oranı %11,8 ile %44,2 arasında değişmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi birinci sınıf öğrencilerinde, sigara kullanımı ve sigara ile ilişkili faktörlerin belirlenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Araştırma kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Verilerin toplanmasında 22 sorudan oluşan anket kullanılmıştır. Tanımlayıcı veriler yüzde ile gösterilmiştir. Ortanca, minimum ve maksimum değerleri verilmiştir. Analitik değerlendirmede kikare testi kullanılmıştır. Tip 1 hata düzeyi α=0,05 olarak alınmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan öğrenci sayısı 188'dir. Öğrencilerin %55,9'u kadındır. Öğrencilerin yaşlarının ortanca değeri 19'dur (minimum: 17, maksimum: 22). Öğrencilerin %24,8'i (n=46) yaşamlarının herhangi bir döneminde sigara kullandığını belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin %10,8'i düzenli sigara içtiğini, %7,6'sı ara sıra sigara içtiğini, %6,4'ü sigarayı bıraktığını belirtmiştir. Sigarayı bırakmayı düşünen 16 kişiden %18,7'si bırakma yöntemlerini bilmemektedir. Öğrencilerin %78,3'ü sigara paketlerinin üzerindeki resim ve sloganlardan etkilenmediğini belirtmektedir. Öğrencilerin %46,1'i arkadaş ortamında bulunmanın sigara tüketimini artırdığını belirtmiştir. Bununla birlikte arkadaş çevresi sigarayı bırakmada destek olanlar arasında %75 ile en önemli gruptur. Sonuç: Tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinde her beş öğrenciden biri halen sigara kullanmaktadır. İleriki sınıflarda bu oranın daha yüksek olması beklenmektedir. İlk sınıflardan itibaren korunma ve bırakma konusunda destek önemlidir. Düzenli sigara kullananların yanında, ara sıra kullanan ve bırakmayı düşünen kitlelere yönelik çalışmalar da yapılmalıdır.Objective: Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the world. The prevalence of smoking among medical students in Turkey ranged from 11.8% to 44.2%. The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with smoking among Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine freshers. Materials and Methods: This study was a cross sectional study. A 22-item questionnaire was used to collect data. Descriptive data are shown in percent. Median, minimum and maximum values are given. Chi-square test was used in the analytical assessment. Type 1 error level is taken as α=0.05.
