Prevalence of the NTEKPC-I on IncF Plasmids Among Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates in Jiangxi Province, South China

Abstract: Infection caused by carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-hvKP) has become a tricky health care threat in China and KPC-2 enzyme is a main factor mediating resistance to carbapenems of K. pneumoniae. Here, we report the characterization of the genetic environment of the blaKPC-2 gene in CR-hvKP clinical isolates from South China. Forty-five non-duplicated CR-hvKP isolates collected in Jiangxi Province from 2018 to 2019 were analyzed. Each of them were multidrug-resistant due to the prese… Show more

“…70,71 More importantly, recent studies reminded the public that strains with this plasmid became high virulence and multidrug resistances. 61,66,[72][73][74] In this study, the tra regions in the three sequenced plasmids were incomplete compared with that in pHN7A8 and the bla KPC-2 gene was only detected in ST11, suggesting a limited horizontal transmission of this plasmid.…”

“…Our isolate harbored an IncF plasmid, insertion sequences, and phage-associated proteins at regions containing ARGs and virulence genes, which reflect their possible role in the horizontal gene transfer and dissemination of such strains [16]. The IncF plasmids are thought to play a significant role in the acquisition of MDR genes [34,35], which could increase the chance for the acquisition of genes such as the bla KPC carbapenem resistance gene.…”

“…Second, strain HvKp-su1 caused a high mortality rate (90%) in G. mellonella larvae, as high as the hypervirulent strain ATCC43816 (91.67%). Third, the sequences of chromosome and plasmid 1 in strain HvKp-su1 are very similar to K. pneumoniae strain JX-CR-hvKP-2, which is a CR-hvKP strain owning a type of pLVPK-like plasmid and having a 50% lethal dose (LD50) < 10 5 CFU to mice [15].…”
