Prevalence of rotavirus and human bocavirus in immunosuppressed individuals after renal transplantation in the Northern Region of Brazil

Abstract: Immunosuppressive therapy causes severe impairment of host defense and diarrhea is a frequent complication in renal transplant recipients. This study aimed to describe the occurrence of Rotavirus A (RVA) and Human Bocavirus (HBoV) in fecal samples of immunosuppressed patients submitted to renal transplantation during posttransplant follow‐up. A longitudinal study was carried out involving a 25‐patient cohort, selected for kidney transplantation. A total of 126 fecal samples were collected between May 2014 and … Show more

“…Other studies performed in Brazil have accessed HBoV DNA in stool samples from patients with underlying medical conditions, such as HIV infected and immunosuppressed transplanted patients, showing detection rates varying from 13% to 21.4% [ 33 , 34 , 35 ]. Worldwide, several studies have detected HBoV in hospitalized children and outpatients with AGE at rates between 3.5% and 19.3%, in countries such as China, Spain, Chile, Pakistan and South Africa [ 14 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ].…”
