“…The prevalence of the current study was in line with the study done in Kenya 13.3% [28]. However, the prevalence of PTSD in the current study was lower than the study conducted in Germany 18.4% [22], Taiwan 82.2% [24], UK 29.1% [25], South Eastern Nigeria 26.7% [26], USA 51% [27], Iran 19.2% [43], Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 22.8% [30], Bahir Dar town, Ethiopia 46.5% [29] and Serbian study 36% [44]. The reason for the variation might be because of the difference in the socio-economic and geographical nature of the study area, variation in sample size, and difference in utilization of tools used to assess Posttraumatic stress disorder.…”

“…Factors such as aging, female gender, increased the length of hospital stay, mechanical ventilation, drug misuse, taking certain sedative drugs, painful procedures, environmental unawareness, loss of control, environmental disruption, an imminent threat of death, delirium and sleep disturbance have all been implicated in chance of developing PTSD in a patient admitted to intensive care units. 5-8 Sleep disturbance is one of the modifiable variables implicated in the development of PTSD which can be regulated by non-pharmacological measures so as to reduce the incidence risk of PTSD. 3 Two of the common methods used in this regard are the use of earplugs and eye masks.…”
