Prevalence of overt myeloproliferative neoplasms and JAK2 V617F mutation in Korean patients with splanchnic vein thrombosis

Abstract: The prevalence of overt MPN and that of JAK2 V617F were lower in Korean patients with SVT than in previous reports. Data from a larger number of patients with long-term follow-up are needed to reveal the clinical relevancy of JAK2 V617F in Korean patients with SVT.

“…In some patients the onset is presented with thrombus and bleeding. The prevalence of overt MPN and that of JAK2V617F mutation in Korean patients with splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) were lower than in previous reports 17 . The association between JAK2V617F mutation burden and clinical phenotype in Chinese patients is unknown.…”

“…Of the 53 retrieved studies, 21 were excluded because of the following reasons: in 2 studies, patients with malignancies or liver cirrhosis were not excluded or explicitly mentioned 30,31 ; 5 studies were based on selected cohorts in which patients with established MPNs or other thrombophilic factors were excluded [32][33][34][35][36] ; one study did not differentiate SVT into BCS and PVT 37 ; in 4 studies, MPN criteria were not acceptable or unclear 14,[38][39][40] ; and 2 studies included Ͻ 10 patients. 29,41 In addition, 7 studies contained duplicate data.…”
