RESUMO -Cefaléia é sintoma comum na população, com prevalência ao longo da vida superior a 90%. Acarreta importante impacto na qualidade de vida de seus portadores. O presente estudo tem por objetivo avaliar a prevalência da migrânea entre trabalhadores de um hospital universitário, bem como mensurar a intensidade, interferência e impacto dela em algumas atividades cotidianas. Um total de 1890 funcionários respondeu a questionário que possibilitava o diagnóstico da migrânea. A prevalência dessa cefaléia ao longo da vida foi 30,4%. A dor foi considerada como intensa, na maioria das vezes, por 86% dos migranosos. Verificou-se impacto importante em aspectos da vida cotidiana tanto durante como no intervalo das crises de dor. Conclui-se que a migrânea representa problema de saúde pública entre os funcionários do HC. Por acarretar importante impacto na qualidade de vida desses trabalhadores, é possível haver diminuição da capacidade laborativa deles, com prejuízo econômico considerável. Cremos que este problema mereça, portanto, atenção especial, através de melhor diagnóstico e tratamento. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: migrânea, prevalência, qualidade de vida. Migraine prevalence and impact: an university hospital employees based studyABSTRACT -Headache is a common symptom in the population, with a life prevalence around 90%. It results in an important impact in the life quality of sufferers. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of migraine among employees of an university hospital (HC), as well as to measure the headache intensity, interference and impact in the daily activities. A total of 1890 employees had answered to a questionnaire which made possible to carry out diagnosis of migraine. Life prevalence of this headache type was 30.4%. Pain was considered intense, most of the time, by 86% of the migraneurs . It was verified an important impact in the daily life aspects as much during as between the headache attacks. It can be concluded that migraine represents a public health problem among the HC employees. Because migraine brings about an important impact in the life quality of those workers, it is possible that a reduction of working capacity with considerable economic burden exists. Migraine is more common in female and onset of migraine is most commonly seen in the second and third decades of life. In this study, we aimed to estimate the prevalence and characteristics of migraine among women of ages between 15 to 45 years in Turkey. This is the first study to target this age group. The women were interviewed on a door-to-door basis, from early morning to late evening. Once responded positively to headache, an in-depth interview was performed questioning for migraine features. Diagnosis was made from a questionnaire by eight neurologists. One thousand eight hundred thirty five (1,835) out of 96,000 women living in Maltepe which is a town of Istanbul participated in this study. The prevalence of migraine in females aged 15-45 (reproductive ages) was 15.8% (95% CI, 0.142-0.176). This study showed that migraine onset occurred at a mean age of 22.7, 33% having family history, and with migraine with and without aura having near equal frequencies. : The purpose of this study was to carry out a program of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based on the pain sustainment/exacerbation model for tension -type headache (TTH) patients and to examine the effectiveness as a pilot study. The participants were 4 TTH patients who consulted the outpatient clinic of a university hospital. It consisted of 4 individualized sessions as CBT program (including psychological education, self -monitoring, relaxation technique, cognitive restricting and exposure), and a follow -up examination was carried out 1 month after its completion. The sessions, each of which was 60 minutes long, were executed at weekly intervals. As a result, the score of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) decreased after program compared with before program in all patients. The score of escape/avoidance was also reduced at the post -program and follow -up (1 month later) compared with the score of pre -program in patients except Case 2, in whom the score was 0 throughout the study. The degree of the Headache Impact Test (HIT -6) improved by program and changed to "mild" or "none" in all participants. These findings show that in patients with TTH this short CBT program has effect on pain catastrophizing, escape/avoidance and daily disability.
