Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the skeletal and dental effects of the Tandem appliance in three dimensions for the correction of skeletal Class III malocclusion. Materials and methods: Twenty-two female girls with skeletal Class III malocclusion due to maxillary retrognathia were selected for this study with age of 7 to 10 years. All patients received The Tandem appliance for treatment of class III malocclusion. CBCT images and digital study models were made at two stages; before and after treatment with The Tandem appliance. CBCT images and digital study models were analyzed and data were statistically analyzed. Results: The use of Tandem appliance significantly enhanced the forward growth of the maxilla without any noticeable effects on the mandible. The anterior and posterior facial height were significantly increased. There was a significant increase in the proclination of the upper incisors and retroclination of the lower incisors. In addition, there was a significant increase in the upper and lower inter-molar widths and also, in the upper inter-canine width. Conclusion: The Tandem appliance showed effective results in the treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusions with maxillary retrognathia. It had a combination of skeletal and dental effects.

Purpose: This study was carried out to assess treatment outcomes of Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device (FFRD) used in correction of skeletal Class II malocclusion through lateral cephalometric analysis. Subjects and methods: The study was conducted on ten Class II male patients. Treatment was followed through leveling and alignment till heavy 0.019 x 0.025-inch stainless steel archwires reached, then FFRD was inserted. The FFRD protocol ended when an overcorrected edge to edge incisal relation was obtained. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken before therapy and after completion of FRD therapy. The following skeletal parameters were measured from lateral cephalograms: SNA, SNB and ANB angles and linear measurement of total mandibular length, ramus height and corpus length. Measured dental parameters were maxillary and mandibular incisors inclination, amount of mesial movement of mandibular first molar, overjet and overbite. Results: The FFRD had a combined skeletal and dentoalveolar effect. It enhanced the sagittal skeletal relationships through maxillary restriction and mandibular forward repositioning. Dentoalveolar effects were significant in both arches and significant enhancement in overjet and overbite were found. Conclusions: The FFRD is effective in correcting Class II malocclusion through skeletal and dentoalveolar changes.

Purpose: This study was designed to assess the attitude and level of awareness of patients toward malocclusion and orthodontic treatment. Materials and methods: The study consisted of a sample of 237 (113 males and 124 females) outpatients attending the dental clinics of Ahram Canadian University. A questionnaire containing 15 questions concerned with the knowledge and attitude regarding orthodontics was filled and the survey data was collected. Simple descriptive statistics was used to compare questionnaire responses for the whole sample, while Chi-square tests were applied for gender comparison. Result: There was a significant difference between male and female awareness. The descriptive statistics showed that patients had higher level of knowledge for questions regarding orthodontics as a specialty, but lower level of knowledge for questions regarding malocclusion. Conclusion: Females were found to be keener to undergo orthodontic treatment than males. Cost and duration of treatment may present as barriers for orthodontic treatment. Also, there was deficiency in the information related to the ill effects caused by malocclusion and oral habits.
