“…Overall, half (50.5%) of the students had sex in the last 12 months and the results indicated that about 28.6% had multiple sex partners, whereas 39% of them practiced unsafe sex. The prevalence of multiple sex partners recorded in this study is low when compared with that of previous studies conducted elsewhere [ 12 , 19 , 22 , 32 , 37 , 40 ]. Consistent with other studies, the risky sexual behaviour was significantly higher in the male students compared to the females [ 41 ].…”

“…We found that a significant proportion (73.1%) would refuse condomless sex, and significantly more females would refuse condomless sex (79.7% vs. 61%) and 93.4% were confident to suggest condom use. Of concern is that only 24.4% carry a condom with them [ 19 ]. It was also found that 63.8% of the students do not keep a condom in their pocket to protect themselves, despite the relative high practice of casual sex.…”

“…Additionally, our investigation revealed that 2.1% of the sample group had gonorrhea, which was significantly lower than that reported by Gondar (20.8%) [14]. The prevalence of gonococcal infection in Gambella was 11.3% according to a study conducted by Ali et al in 2016. This rate is approximately similar to the reported rate of gonococcal infection in Hawassa, which was 5.1%, as reported by the hospital [15], Adama [16], Malawi (4.5%) [17], Ghana (2.65%) [18], and Somaliland (2%) 6 . The current study revealed a significantly greater incidence of gonorrhea than the average incidence in Africa and worldwide, which were 1.75% and 0.8%, respectively [8].…”
