“…Hydrocarbons in glue, cleaners, or paints were smelled by teenagers who turned on in twentieth-century America, giving birth to the “sniffing syndrome” ( 21 ). Glue-sniffing is still widespread in the young population of many countries where any kind of solvent abuse by inhalation is considered an immediate and affordable recreation ( 22 ). The ad libitum abuse of these ethers is likely to have caused nose irritation ( 23 ), contrary to the current halogenated ethers for medical purposes that are known to have a high safety profile and nimbler titratability.…”

The CWIN report on glue sniffing among street children in Kathmandu valley noted that 47 (77.0%) of the street children in Kathmandu sniffed dendrite due to peer influence while nine (14.6%) children sniffed glue due to peer pressure.…”

Majority of the children notified that they sniffed glue for the feeling of pleasure, to cope with hunger, and due to peer influence, or to protect their sense of belonging to the group.…”

“…Most institutions and individuals approach the issue from a liberal perspective, highlighting delinquency, violence, abuse and victimization of street children. Their vulnerability to depraved and harmful impacts like criminal acts and drug addiction or glue-sniffing, besides their deprivation of rights to education and health facilities, are primary concerns as street children are often associated with social disturbances (Bajari and Kuswar, 2020; Sah et al, 2020).…”
