Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy that has a significant impact on patients’ quality of life. Current physical therapy treatment options show limited effects or low-quality evidence, especially in the long term. To date, there has been little research to look at the effects of treating the cervical spine on decreasing symptoms distally to the carpal tunnel. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of cervical manual therapy plus conventional physical therapy on patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Methods: This pilot pretest/posttest and six-month follow-up clinical study included 15 adult patients with CTS. For two weeks, each patient received 10 sessions of supervised intervention treatment. The efficacy of the therapies was assessed at baseline (T0), immediately after treatment (T1), and six months after treatment (T2). The visual analog scale (VAS), a symptom severity scale, the functional capacity scale of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ), the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, median nerve motor distal latency (mMDL), and median sensory nerve conduction velocity (mSNCV) were outcome measures. Results: There were significant improvements in all measures between the baseline values at T0 and those recorded immediately after the treatment at T1 or six months later at T2 (p<.05). Conclusion: This pilot study indicates that cervical manual therapy plus conventional physical therapy applied for two weeks improves clinical outcomes and electrodiagnostic findings in people with CTS.

Human infection with Enterobius vermicularis occurs worldwide, particularly in children. The Role of E. vermicularis in appendicitis is proven. was aimed at characterization and genotyping f this parasite from different samples inferred by mitochondrial DNA to get the parasitic gene flow among diverse populations. There were 40 appendectomies for acute clinical appendicitis, 40 positive scotch tape samples, and an adult female worm isolated from Urmia and Maragheh in the northwest of Iran. Genetic differentiation, haplotype network analysis, and isolates' population structure were analyzed based on cytochrome C oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene. It has been demonstrated that all isolations in the appendectomies specimens are similar, and the genetic difference divergence is seen in adult worm specimens. The neutral indices of the samples of Azerbaijan did not show a significant difference and show that there is no intraspecific and population distribution diversity. Our samples show different haplotypes in the B type of E. vermicularis population and add new information about genotyping of these parasites in Iran. In comparison with other studies, intraspecific variation of this parasite from Iran was observed.

Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most prevalent entrapment neuropathy. Due to the results of recent studies about the protective effects of L-carnitine on nerves, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects L-carnitine on CTS improvement in terms of patient's function, electrodiagnostic study (EDX), and median nerve sonography. Methods: In this double-blind, randomized, controlled trial, patients with CTS were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and then, divided into two groups of placebo and L-carnitine at a dose of 500 mg twice daily for 6 weeks. They were assessed at baseline, and 4 and 6 weeks later using Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ)‎, median nerve conduction study (EDX), and sonography. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of BCTQ‎ scores, electrodiagnostic findings, and sonographic indexes. Although based on the results of the repeated measures test of the intervention and control groups separately, there was a statistically significant difference in some electrodiagnostic criteria and BCTQ‎ scores. These indexes improved after the intervention. Conclusion: The effectiveness of L-carnitine on mild to moderate CTS improvement cannot be approve based on the findings of this study and more studies and systematic reviews are required in this regard.
