SummaryObjective: Because of the need for appropriately collected, detailed data to prevent and rehabilitate disability in our country; were viewed disability cases whom were admitted to Inönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center an daimed to contribute to the data about disabled people.
Methods:Of the archive records between 01.01.2015 and 12.29.2015, which were comprised of disabled people who applied to Health Board for disability report, 2241 were screened retrospectively. Age, sex, month of application, whole body function loss ratio, whether or not they had severe disability and and their disability were continuous, type of disability, purpose of use and applied division are recorded. SPSS for Windows Version 17.0 was used for statistical analysis in our study. Results: 863 women and 1378 men were included in our study with Conclusions: 43.2% of our cases were children and the most common disability in this age group was mental disability. Chronic diseases were observed as the most common reason of disability in adult age group. The fact that mental disability is that much prominent in children age group shows us, family doctors, that we shouldn't only examine children from a biological standpoint but also from a mental standpoint. As family doctors, we should also inform handicapped people who come to the clinic for examination, about social support given by the state.

“…In fact, disability is a significant driver of health care costs (Spillman, 2004;Stone, 2000), contributing US$400 billion per year in health care expenditures (Courtney-Long et al, 2013). The cost impact of disability rises dramatically as the number of disabilities increases.…”
Interventions aimed at preventing disability progression and efforts to restore functional capacity are promising strategies for containing costs and generating savings for Medicare. Future research is needed to assess the longer term impact of disability in association with the progression of chronic conditions.
“…1 The most common functional disability type, reported by 1 in 8 adults (13%), 1 is a mobility limitation, defined as serious difficulty walking or climbing stairs. The use of assistive technology (AT) has the potential to compensate for a mobility impairment and improve overall function with activities and participation.…”
Objective: The overall objective of this project was to identify consumers' opinions of their needs and wants related to assistive technology (AT) in a systematic and quantitative manner via a questionnaire that can be used to validate existing and establish new research priorities. Methods: This pilot study describes questionnaire development, online implementation, and revisions considered to the questionnaire in preparation for conducting a nationwide survey. Data from a sample (N = 112) are presented. The pilot study was critical to refine the questions and ensure that meaningful information was being collected. Results: It was identified that revisions were warranted to provide more structure and allow for consumers to prioritize AT research efforts.
Conclusion:The questionnaire results, although positively in favor of many of the technologies presented, are inconclusive to identify generalizable research priorities, thus expansion to a nationwide population is warranted.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
