Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in a Population-Based Sample of Adults in Tirana, Albania

Abstract: Aims: Our aim was to assess the prevalence of diabetes mellitus through self-reports and measurement of fasting glucose level in a representative sample of Albanian adults residing in Tirana. “…However, one measurement is not sufficient to establish the diagnosis of diabetes and, usually, other parameters are used (2-h Oral Glucose Tolerance Test [OGTT] and HbA1c testing)-posing another limitation of this study. Also, the instrument for assessment of HL was based on a well-developed and standardized tool (3) previously validated in the Albanian context (22).
