Prevalence of common mental disorders in widowhood: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Highlights Widowhood is associated with a high prevalence of common mental disorders  About 40% meet the cut-off for depression using screening scales  About 20% meet full diagnostic criteria for depression  There was no difference in the prevalence of depression between the two sexes  The pooled prevalence estimate of anxiety disorders was about 27%
