“…In our study NP (DN4 score ≥4) was present in 23% of patients who were followed in Diabetes Outpatient Clinic. Previously reported prevalence of NP in diabetic patients ranges between 14% and 47% [18,19]. Higher prevalance rates in this study may be related with relatively longer diabetes duration and poor glycemic control [18] in our tertiary referral center.…”

“…Previously reported prevalence of NP in diabetic patients ranges between 14% and 47% [18,19]. Higher prevalance rates in this study may be related with relatively longer diabetes duration and poor glycemic control [18] in our tertiary referral center. Previous studies have shown that DPN affects 40.4% of diabetic patients who attend to the university outpatient clinics in Turkey and also the prevalence of NP in this population was 14.0% [23].…”

“…In the literature, the prevalence of chronic pain in various settings and countries worldwide is an average of 20 % [82][83][84][85], whereas the prevalence rates reported in two studies among survivors of torture is on average 80 % [86,87] . One therefore could extrapolate that 75 % of chronic pain among survivors of torture is directly related to torture, which in turn allows us to estimate the number of survivors of torture suffering from chronic pain.…”

“…Chronic neuropathic pain is an important public health problem, which ∼5–8% of the European population suffers with (19). Current treatment regimens are not universally adequate with only 30–50% of patients reporting an appreciable reduction in pain and improvement in their quality of life using the currently available analgesic drugs such as the gabapentinoids, opioids and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Carbamazepine (20).…”
