Prevalence of Childhood Sexual Abuse and Timing of Disclosure in a Representative Sample of Adults from Quebec

Abstract: A significant number of adult women and men reported experiencing CSA, and most victims attested to either not disclosing or significantly delaying abuse disclosure.

“…In a review of the literature concerning the prevalence of CSA (most articles were from North America), Tourigny, and Baril (2011) similarly established that one in ten men, and one in five women disclosed having been sexually abused during the course of their childhood. Statistics for the province of Quebec reflected a similar reality; Hébert, Tourigny, Cyr, McDuff, and Joly (2009) attempted to discover the prevalence of CSA and the disclosure patterns amongst men and women in Quebec.
