“…For carotid artery, the prevalence rate varied from 78 to 87% [ 15 , 16 ]. In addition, in the present study, male showed a higher prevalence of multi-site atherosclerosis than female which was consistent with the previous data [ 6 , 12 , 13 ].…”

“…Studies showed that traditional risk factors including aging, hypertension, current smoking, diabetes and the level of HDL-C were associated with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis and plaque burden [ 6 , 15 , 17 ]. In our study from in-hospital population, we also found CF-PWV, age, sex, stroke, PAD, dyslipidemia, hypoglycemic agents and smoke were independently associated with multi-site atherosclerosis.…”

“…The study also showed that, increased CIMT is associated with poorer prognosis and lesser functional outcome. These results agree with the work of Song et al, 2018 [16] who declared that increased CIMT was an independent risk of LIs and associated with poorer outcome due to its high association with vascular risks and increased tissue inflammatory markers. On the contrary, Polak and O'Leary, 2016 [17] stated that increased CIMT may not associated with higher LIs induced motor disability as it is more related to large vessel atherosclerosis than Small Vessel Disease (SVD).…”

“…In this study, it was found that the prevalence of increased IMT, carotid plaque and CAS in the general population older than 40 years in northeast China was 3.2%, 48.6% and 4.0%, respectively, significantly higher than the prevalence noted in the China National Stroke Prevention Project and systematic reviews [2,3], indicating the massive cervical arterial atherosclerosis burden in northeast China. Jilin Province is one of the regions with the heaviest burden of CAS, cervical artery stenosis; CHD, coronary heart disease; DBP, diastolic blood pressure; FPG, fasting plasma glucose; HDL-C, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol; IMT, intima-media thickness; LDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol; NIAAA, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism; SBP, systolic blood pressure; TC, total cholesterol; TG, triglyceride.…”
