“…The Gardella et al (2017) study examined how the correlation between exposure to cyber-bullying and difficulties in achievement and attendance varied by gender, race/ethnicity, and age. Meta-analysis techniques also exist for the prevalence of a phenomenon across studies such as in estimating the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in preterm infants (Agrawal, Rao, Bulsara, & Patole, 2018) and for diagnostic and prognostic test accuracy.…”

“…Prematurity is found in 9%–12% of births in the US. Although advances in neonatal medicine have decreased mortality of preterm birth, surviving infants are vulnerable to multiple morbidities, including increased risk for medical problems (Barfield, ), attention deficits, cognitive and language delays, disturbed executive function, autism spectrum disorder (Agrawal, Rao, Bulsara, & Patole, ), anxiety and depression (Field, ), and cognitive impairment (Brydges et al, ). Among the contributors to these outcomes are the effects of physical and emotional separation of infants and mothers during the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay (Korja, Latva, & Lehtonen, ).…”

“…The former is where labor is induced or a Caesarean section is performed because of medical risks or complications, the latter where onset of labor occurs spontaneously prior to 37 weeks gestation. However, this distinction fails to take into impairments affecting multiple organ systems (Haraldsdottir et al, 2018;Huang, Lin, Wang, Su, & Lin, 2018;Parkinson, Hyde, Gale, Santhakumaran, & Modi, 2013), including potentially disabling neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders (Agrawal, Rao, Bulsara, & Patole, 2018;Franz et al, 2018;Heuvelman et al, 2018;Nosarti et al, 2012;Sutton & Darmstadt, 2013). This highlights the importance of determining the mechanisms behind preterm birth and how these mechanisms might relate to the difficulties faced later in life.…”
