Prevalence of Anticardiolipin Antibodies in Pregnancies with History of Repeated Miscarriages~!2010-03-24~!2010-06-11~!2010-08-26~!

Abstract: Aim:This study aimed at evaluating the prevalence of high anticardiolipin antibody and lupus anticoagulant levels in women with histories of at least two miscarriages. Methods:The presence of high anticardiolipin antibody and lupus anticoagulant levels were evaluated in 52 patients with ages between 17 and 41 (mean 26.7 years old) who had histories of repeated miscarriages. Results:High anticardiolipin antibody levels were identified in 55.77% and lupus anticoagulant levels in 2% of the individuals. Conclusion:In… Show more

“…The prevalence is lower than that observed by other authors [15,16]. The prevalance of LA was thrice that of ACA and this observation was in contrast to other studies [6,30]. This variation is attributed to difference in sensitivity of various ELISA kits used, lack of standardization and difference in normal cut off levels (range 2 SD to 5 SD) for ACA.…”

“…There is evidence that they affect approximately 10% of cases of RSA [7,8,12]. These antibodies are specific to phospholipids expressed on the cell membrane and contribute to early fetal loss, potentially acting in reducing trophoblastic implantation [15,16].…”

“…In addition, maternal thromboembolism when present can exert strong influence on the success of pregnancy obscuring the importance of aCL [22,23]. Previous observations reported a higher frequency of aCL in women with a history of RSA [12,23]. There are reports highlighting the importance of aCL in reproductive success in which they account for approximately 10% of cases of RSA [4,8].…”
