“…Consistent with earlier prevalence studies in Korea [2,3,10,11] and other countries [1] , we found that the rate of dementia increased exponentially with age. The agestandardized prevalence rate of dementia and its subtypes in the Korean population of 2005 was 6.3%, which is likely to increase since the Korean society is rapidly transforming from an aging society to an aged society.…”

“…In Korean elders, the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VD) has been estimated to range from 4.2 to 6.5% and 1.3 to 2.5%, respectively [3,[9][10][11] . However, although dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) has been suggested to be the second most common type of degenerative dementia in older people [12] , the prevalence of DLB has never been investigated in Korea.…”

“…In Japan, 18.2% of residents aged 60 years or older in a remote island in Kagoshima (Kodama et al, 2002) and 21.8% of Tajiri rural residents aged 65 years or older (Ishizaki et al, 1998) showed an MMSE score less than 24. In a study of Korean community-dwelling elderly aged 65 or older, the reported prevalence was much higher at 33.7% for rural residents (Woo et al, 1998) and 29.3% for urban residents . The prevalence of depressive symptoms, screened using the GDS, was reported to be 30.2% for the urban elderly and 24.9% for the rural elderly in Japan (Niino et al, 1997).…”

“…MVD also determines volume of possible binding site before docking and cavity with largest volume is selected as docking point. Population of Indian subcontinent has very low risk of AD as compared to other continent of the world (Boersma et al 1998;Brayne et al 1998;Azzimondi et al 1998;Shaji et al 1996;Yamada et al 1999;Woo et al 1998;Lin et al 1998;Fillenbaum et al 1998;Herrera et al 1998;Lopes et al 2007). This may be due to regular consumption of curry spice turmeric and other herbal congeners by Indian population.…”
