Prevalence and risk factors of drug-resistant tuberculosis in border provinces of Iran

Abstract: The results of this study indicated that MAS-PCR is an efficient method for rapid detection of mutations leading to RMP resistance but merely to KatG it is not satisfactory for the detection of INH resistance. Accurate and rapid detection of drug resistance is crucial in males and patients with a history of tuberculosis.

“…In Iran (2011), the proportion of MDR-TB cases of new and retreated TB cases were reported to be 5% and 38.3%, respectively [5]. Due to the proximity to countries such as Azerbaijan, Armenia and Pakistan, which are among the 27 countries with the highest MDR-TB burden in world, the control of drug resistance is very pivotal in Iran [7]. …”

“…All these methods are different from each other in terms of cost, sensitivity, turnaround time, expertise of the operator, and the type of mutation they detect. However, the high cost, lack of access in many endemic areas and the need for high expertise to perform and interpret the results have limited their use.in compare, MAS-PCR is a simple , cost -effective and time-consuming method for verifying drug resistance (4,21). According to a study Iran, the prevalence of MDR stain 2020 2013 is estimated at 6.3% which is not compatible with our ndings (22).…”

“…One of the most important causes of re-infection is treatment failure, which occurs due to poor management of treatment ( 9 ). Prevention of TB re-infection prevents drug resistance in addition to reducing the economic and social burden of the disease ( 10 ).…”
