Prevalence and global distribution ofblaKPC-2andblaNDM-1genes inKlebsiella Pneumoniae

Abstract: Carbapene-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae infections have caused a major concern and posed a global health threat to public. bla KPC-2 and bla NDM-1 genes are the most widely reported of carbapenem resistance genes in K. pneumoniae. In this study, we investigated phylogenetic relationships of carbapene-resistant K. pneumoniae from a tertiary hospital between 2013 and 2018 in China and analyzed the global epidemiology and distribution of bla KPC-2 and bla NDM-1 gene in K.pneumoniae based on 1579 NGS genomes. We… Show more

“…La emergencia de aislamientos de Kpn-KPC+NDM+ evidencia la capacidad de K. pneumoniae de producir múltiples β-lactamasas con el mismo perfil de hidrolisis. Estos aislados que habían sido descriptos previamente en diversos países (11,12,13) fueron detectados en nuestro medio en forma simultánea en un gran número de centros asistenciales. En el Hospital de Clínicas fueron detectados por primera vez en agosto de 2020, triplicándose su presencia en 2022.…”

“…WHO classified carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CRKP) as a critical priority tier of pathogens and the highest priority in novel antimicrobial development in 2017 (8). In China, KPC is the most prevalent genetic mechanism of carbapenem resistance in K. pneumoniae species, and it is frequently coupled with other forms of β-lactamases (e.g., ESBLs) (7,9,28,29). In this study, we discovered the co-existence of KPC gene and ESBLs genes.…”

“… 6 Among these, bla KPC-2 and bla NDM-1 are the most common carbapenem enzyme genes that cause outbreaks in China. 7 The bla KPC gene was first discovered in the United States in 1996, 8 it had a long history and was highly contagious. According to the China Antimicrobial Surveillance Network (CHINET), the resistance rate of K. pneumoniae to carbapenems increased rapidly from 2.9% in 2005 to more than 25.3% in 2019, 9 which means that the resistance mechanism of K. pneumoniae to carbapenems should be given serious attention.…”
