Based on the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) 2018, the incidence of periodontitis in Indonesia was reported at 74.1%, which makes it one of the most common oral health problems in the country. Overall, 2,759 patients, aged 19–64 years underwent periodontal examinations at the Public Health Centres in Malang between January and September 2019. The present study aimed to determine the description of periodontitis patients at the Public Health Centres, Malang, by conducting an early detection of periodontitis against the risk of the disease. This study used a cross-sectional design and a proportional random sampling technique. In total, 277 respondents visited the Public Health Centres in Malang during the study period. The early detection result is based on the number of questionnaire scores on signs, symptoms, and exposures to risk factors for periodontitis, which are divided into three categories: high, moderate, and low risks. The instrument used in this study is a modification of the previous research instrument by Renatus. The result showed that 58 respondents had moderate (21%), 4 (1.4%) had high, and 215 (77.6%) had low risks of periodontitis. Respondents who had a lower risk of periodontitis were more than the respondents who had high and moderate risks of periodontitis. Konya ilinde lise çağındaki genç bireylerde periodontitis prevelansı ve periodontal tedavi gereksinimi Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Konya ilindeki devlet okullarında okuyan, 14-18 yaş grubu lise çağındaki genç bireylerde Periodontitis prevelansını araştırmak ve bu bireylerin periodontal tedavi gereksinimlerini belirlemektir. Gereç ve yöntem: Toplam 362 lise öğrencisi (174 kız ve 188 erkek) çalışmaya dahil edildi. Tüm öğrenciler kendi okullarında gün ışığında, Dünya Sağlık Örgütü (WHO)'nun periodontal sondu ve ayna kullanılarak muayene edildi. Periodontal tedavi gereksinimi, Toplum Periodontal Tedavi Gereksinimi İndeksi "Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs" (CPITN) kodlamasına göre belirlendi. Bulgular: Muayene edilen toplam 362 öğrenci içerisinden üç öğrenciye (1 kız ve 2 erkek) periodontitis teşhisi konuldu. Toplam 2172 sekstant incelendi ve 1220 sekstantın (% 56.17) sadece ağız hijyeni eğitimi gereksinimi, 889 sekstantın (% 40.93) diştaşı temizliği gereksinimi ve 5 sekstantın da (% 0.23) diştaşı temizliğine ilave olarak ileri periodontal tedavi gereksinimi olduğu belirlendi. Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın limitleri dahilinde Konya ilinde lise çağındaki öğrencilerde periodontitis prevelansının % 0.83 ve kız/erkek oranının 1:2 olduğu tespit edildi. Muayene edilen toplam 2172 sekstantta sadece 58 sekstantın (% 2.67) tedaviye gereksiniminin olmadığı belirlendi. Introduction: Periodontitis is a multifactorial inflammatory disease which is generally caused by plaque accumulation. Many studies have shown that Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) is the main etiological agent that contributes to chronic periodontitis. Scaling and root planing (SRP) is the gold standard for periodontitis treatment. The use of antibiotics as additional agents accompanying the SRP procedure has limitations that can cause resistance to subgingival periodontal pathogens. Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth i.e betel leaf is a natural ingredient that contains anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to analyze the inhibition of Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth extract against Pg bacteria. Methods: The type of study used was an experimental laboratory with a Post-Test Control Group Design research design which was divided into 6 treatment groups using the disk diffusion method with concentrations of Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth extract 25, 50, 75 and 100%, sterile aquades as a negative control and Chlorhexidine as a positive control. Data analyses of One Way Anova and Post Hoc Tukey were used Results: Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth extract concentrations of 25, 50, 75, and 100% had an effect on reducing the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis (p≤0,05), the average inhibition response was 14.40 mm at 25% concentration, 16.58 mm at 50% concentration and 19.30 mm at 75%, 21.88 mm at 100% concentration.Conclusion: Peperomia pellucida (L.) Kunth extract has an antibacterial effect against Porphyromonas gingivalis which has the potential to be used as a periodontitis herb.Keywords: Betel leaf extract Peperomia pellucida (L.)
