Prevalence and Associated Risk Factors of Urinary Tract Infection among Diabetic Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common long-term complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Additionally, various factors, such as socio-demographics, type of DM, fasting blood glucose, regular diabetes monitoring, comorbid chronic diseases, HbA1c, body mass index (BMI), and duration of DM, are also thought to predispose individuals to developing UTIs more frequently when they have DM. This research aims to evaluate the risk factors for UTIs and their prevalence among people with DM in Saudi … Show more

“…The risks factors for an RUTI are essential since they said the selection of a supportive nonantibiotic treatment. Risk factors frequently implicated in the development of an RUTI have included diabetes, recent sexual intercourse, history of urogenital surgery, urinary emptying dysfunction, accidental intestinal leakage, and urinary incontinence ( Sihra et al, 2018 ; Jung and Brubaker, 2019 ; Ahmed et al, 2023 ), as observed in the clinical data of the patients in this study. In older adult women, these comorbidities can be complicated by pyelonephritis (1.6%) or urosepsis (0.08%), conditions that put the patient’s life at serious risk ( Bradley et al, 2022 ).…”

“…There was a significant association between the early presence of CAUTIs (from 3 to 6 days) and the presence of DM (P = 0.046) and postoperative complications (P = 0.046). It is well known that DM predisposes individuals to various infections due to the compromised immune system (26). Different factors increase infections in diabetic patients, such as high glucose levels, which are considered a source of nutrient material for the Jundishapur J Microbiol.…”
