Prevalance of gestational diabetes mellitus in patients with gestational transient thyrotoxicosis

Background:Low health literacy (HL) of patients has obtained more attention as a risk factor for poor adherence to treatment and adverse outcomes in chronic disease's management particular in diabetes care. Diabetes Numeracy Test-15 (DNT-15) has been developed specifically for this purpose. The objective of the current study is to evaluate psychometric properties of Iranian (Persian) version of the DNT-15.Methods:The shortened version of the DNT (15-items) was completed by 120 patients with diabetes. The Kuder–Richardson Formula 20 for internal consistency was conducted. Content validity, criterion-related validity, and construct validity were also evaluated.Results:The average score on the DNT was 72% and took an average of 25 minutes to complete. The DNT-15 had a very good internal reliability (KR-20 = 0.90) and also content validity (content validity ratio: 089 and content validity index: 0.86).Conclusions:The DNT-15 (Persian version) is a reliable and valid measure of diabetes-related numeracy skills for Iranian patients with diabetes; however, additional studies are needed to further explore the association between diabetes-specific numeracy and acculturation and their impact on diabetes-related outcomes in Iranian population.

Нарушения функции щитовидной железы распространены у женщин репродуктивного возраста, в связи с чем имеют довольно высокую частоту встречаемости среди беременных, в ряде случаев сопровождая ГСД. Гипотеза о влиянии гипо-и гипертиреоза на возникновение нарушений углеводного обмена во время беременности легла в основу многочисленных исследований, результаты которых и отражены в этом обзоре. Однако для того, чтобы выделить патологию щитовидной железы и наличие тиреоидных аутоантител в дополнительные факторы риска ГСД и, как результат, проводить повсеместный скрининг у беременных женщин, необходимы результаты исследований, подтверждающих целесообразность подобных мероприятий. Ключевые слова: патология щитовидной железы, гипотиреоз, гипертиреоз, тиреоидные аутоантитела, гестационный сахарный диабетGestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most common pathologies accompanying pregnancy and is associated with a number of short and long term complications for the mother and fetus. Dysfunctions of the thyroid gland are common in women of reproductive age, and therefore have a rather high frequency of occurrence among pregnant women, in some cases accompanying GDM. The hypothesis of the influence of hypo-and hyperthyroidism on the occurrence of disorders of carbohydrate metabolism during pregnancy formed the basis of numerous studies, the results of which are discussed in this review. However, in order to isolate the pathology of the thyroid gland and the presence of thyroid autoantibodies as additional risk factors for GDM and to begin to carry out widespread screening in pregnant women, research results are needed to confirm the feasibility of such measures.

Abstract: Although GTT is known to be a transient state that can resolve spontaneously, it might have negative effect on carbohydrate metabolism like other causes of hyperthyroidism.
