Pressurized Oxy-fuel Combustion: A Study of Selected Parameters

Abstract: Oxy-fuel combustion is a potential low-emission technique for energy conversion. This paper presents the results of oxy-fuel experiments under high-pressure conditions. The influence of process parameters, such as reactor pressure and temperature, on the emission of NO x , N2O, and other compounds was tested. A new oxy-fuel experimental setup is presented. The experiments were conducted using a laboratory-scale (fuel input of up to 3 kg/h) pressurized fluidized-bed combustor. The feedstock used was “Ziemowit” … Show more

“…Usually, researches focused on the transition rate. However, Flexiburn TM was also applied as a scientific tool to investigate NO conversion during oxy-fuel combustion (Lasek, et al, 2012;Lasek et al, 2013). Very recently Luo et al (2014) simulated the transition process (between air-into oxy-combustion) in a 3 MWth oxy-fuel test facility using Aspen Plus Dynamics software.…”

“…The process product is a gas consisting mostly of CO 2 and water vapour. The considerable concentration of CO 2 in the gas enables direct referral to sequestration, which is followed by condensation of water vapour [3,4].…”

“…Since the oxy-combustion of coal char is a heterogeneous reaction, it can proceed under three different reaction-controlling regimes: chemical kinetics, mixed internal diffusion-chemical kinetics and external diffusion [8,9]. Oxy-combustion in a fluidised bed boiler occurs at a temperature of 1073-1173 K where diffusion limitations exist [3,4,10]. The scaling-up of this process requires an extensive computational analysis, which is critical for proper boiler design.…”

“…The TAURON group, second largest energy producer in Poland, joined R&D Strategic Programme "Development of a technology for highly efficient zero-emission coal-fired power units integrated with CO 2 capture" [2] developing post-combustion CO 2 capture [3] and oxyfuel combustion technology [4,5], as well as biomass co-firing [6] to find economically and technically acceptable way to reduce CO 2 emissions.…”
