Pressure transmitting medium Daphne 7474 solidifying at 3.7 GPa at room temperature

Abstract: A pressure transmitting medium named Daphne 7474, which solidifies at P(s)=3.7 GPa at room temperature, is presented. The value of P(s) increases almost linearly with temperature up to 6.7 GPa at 100 degrees C. The high pressure realized by a medium at the liquid state allows a higher limit of pressurization, which assures an ideal hydrostatic pressure. We show a volume change against pressure, pressure reduction from room to liquid helium temperature in a clamped piston cylinder cell, pressure distribution an… Show more

“…Daphne 7474 was used as pressure transmitting medium. 12,13 The viscosity of the Daphne 7474 is two orders of magnitude lower than that of the Daphne 7373 and a Fluorinert mixture, 14,15 commonly used in the previous studies. 4,5,7 This indicates the better pressure quality in the present study.…”

“…(Hydrostaticity of these pressure transmitting media in DAC have been studied in detail. [41][42][43][44][45][46] ) Based on these considerations and the results in Fig. 1, it is reasonable to assume that the sample be in the SC state at 4 and 6 GPa in this study, although no resistivity measurement has been made.…”
