Pressure swing distillation for the separation of methyl acetate‐methanol azeotrope

Abstract: Pressure swing distillation (PSD) process was used to separate methyl acetate‐methanol azeotrope. Through the phase diagram analysis, distillation sequence and technological process were determined. On the basis of the principle of the minimum total annual cost (TAC), design variables such as feeding position, reflux ratio, and column plate number were optimized and the optimal parameters were determined. The high‐pressure column (HPC) under various pressures were analysed. The economic results of the PSD with… Show more

“…Separation of ternary system is a common and typical process in chemical separation process. Recently, there are many researches [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] relating to the separation of ternary mixture. Aurangzeb et al 8 developed a new type of extractive dividing wall column (E-DWC) using hot ethylene glycol as solvent to separate ethanol/water/glycol ternary system, and introduced heat pump distillation technology into E-DWC, which is called heat-integrated E-DWC (E-HiDWC).…”

“…In fact, the difficulty of separating the methanol‐esters mixture lies in the separation of the MA‐methanol azeotrope, which cannot be separated using the ordinary distillation technique. Instead, special distillation strategies, such as pressure swing distillation which realizes azeotropic separation by changing the azeotropic composition with different operating pressures (Wang et al, 2019), will be further evaluated in our future work. Since the water content in the recycled methanol will be increased to over 4% due to the esterification reaction (data not shown), to ensure high acid conversion and avoid excessive use of energy, the absorption of water from the recycled methanol involving molecular sieves is therefore proposed; 4.…”

“…Hasil simulasi menggunakan sensitivity study pada ChemCAD dengan variasi tekanan feed, didapatkan hasil yang disajikan dalam Tabel 3. Perubahan tekanan yang terjadi membuat titik azeotropik bergeser [9]. Ketika titik azeotropik bergeser maka titik didih dari komponen akan ikut bergeser menjadi lebih besar seiring dengan tekanan yang meningkat.…”
