Pressure surge testing of pothead and joint for pipe type cable circuits

Abstract

This paper describe the development and testing of a pressure surge accumulator suitable for field installation on high preswue fluid filled pipe cable circuits. Test results show that installation of pressure surge accumulat~ will reduce the electrical fault pressure surge to a level low enough to p W d the pothead pOI&h from NptUre.A 345 kV full stop designed to withstand adiffemtial pressure of the full line pressure, was pressure surge tested to show that the joint would be able to withstand the preamre surges developed during an electrical fault.The tests showedthat the designis capable of withstanding the pressure surges without damage.
