Pressure Dependence of the Chlorine NQR in Three Solid Chloro Anisoles

Abstract: The 35C1 Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) frequency ( V q ) and spin lattice relaxation time (T{) in the three anisoles 2,3,4-trichloroanisole, 2,3,6-trichloroanisole and 3,5-dichloroanisole have been measured as a function of pressure upto 5.1 kbar at 300 K, and the data have been analysed to estimate the temperature coefficients of the NQR frequency at constant volume. All the three com pounds show a non linear variation of the NQR frequency with pressure, the rate of which is positive and decreases with … Show more

“…5, it can be seen that at lower pressure (higher volume) the dynamic effects dominate and at the high pressure (lower volume) static effects predominates. The values of n , b and γ obtained in this study are in good agreement with the reported values for similar compounds 4…”

“…Bayle et al 1 and Chandramani et al 2 studied inter‐ and intra‐molecular hydrogen bonding in chlorophenols. Earlier studies3, 4 have shown that the chloroanisole do not exhibit intra‐ and inter‐molecular hydrogen bonding. The present investigation is to study the effect of reorientation of nonresonant group and also to see how pressure would affect the NQR frequencies and spin lattice relaxation in 2,3‐dichloroanisole.…”

“…This is expected as NO 2 group being heavy is reorienting itself with high activation energies and it will influence the relaxation of 3‐chlorine as well as 4‐chlorine nucleus. The values obtained in the present investigations are in good agreement with data reported in the literature …”

“…Bayer proposed the first theoretical model to explain the temperature dependence of T 1 , which was later modified by Woessner and Gutowsky by defining an average lifetime for all the torsional states and obtained W 1 and W 2 for the Δm = ±1 and Δm = ±2 transitions. In the present case, we have followed the methods used by Ramu et al and Suresh et al for the analysis of spin lattice relaxation time.…”
