Background: Effective occupational health and safety management (OHSM) is important to employee health, enterprise sustainability, and social stability. However, scientific research into OHSM lags behind practice, and contextualizing OHSM research from the perspective of its historical evolution is urgently required.Methods: The mapping of knowledge domains, based on bibliometric analysis, was adopted to classify 4,852 journal articles related to OHSM listed in the core database of Web of Science and published between 1900 and 2018.Results and Conclusions: Risk assessment/management at the organizational level were found to have always been research hotspots, and the relationship between safety culture/atmosphere, sickness absence, and safety performance, among other factors, have become core research topics in the field in recent years. Research at the individual level has gradually evolved from an early focus on physiological problems such as work-related musculoskeletal disorders and low back pain, further toward issues such as occupational stress, mental health, and quality of life. In addition, the results of clustering analysis based on high-frequency keywords indicated six aspects of OHSM: OHSM mode and method; OHSM systems and standards; OHS risk assessment and management; OHSM and safety culture; mental health and quality of life; and specific disease management. Future development trends in OHSM research are described providing theoretical and practical reference for further study.

One area in which the concern for safety is growing rapidly is the manufacturing industry (Adebiyi, Jekayinfa & Charles-Owaba 2009;Tymvios & Gambatese 2016). Apart from cost due to Background: It has been established that high levels of safety performance are achieved by strong and positive safety climates. Good safety, health and environmental practices reduce the cost of overall healthcare delivery while increasing general productivity. These sentiments underpin the concept of an occupational health and safety (OHS) system.Aim: This study assesses the effectiveness of an OHS in a selected automotive assembly organisation in South Africa. Settings:The automotive organisation that participated in the study has adopted an OHS system. Prior to its implementation, the company experienced an increase in the rate of occupational diseases and injuries. Methods:The study objectives were achieved by examining Health and Safety (H&S) related experiences in the company. The collection of data was carried out in two phases, namely the collection of pre-OHS and post-OHS results from company records for H&S compliance, occupational diseases, as well as workplace injury rates. The pre-OHS results were quarterly data reflecting the company's H&S performance over the 3-year period prior to the implementation of the OHS system. This company operates in the eThekwini District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. Results:The OHS system has no influence on occupational diseases, or on the workplace injury frequency rates. However, H&S compliance plays a role in the maintenance of the OHS system. Conclusion:In order to maximise performance, a comprehensive OHS policy must be developed that aligns management commitment to the OHS system. Thus, the study uncovered the strengths and weaknesses of OHS in this automotive assembly organisation in South Africa.

Fire is, in many respects, a devastating element that once unleashed can be the cause of both human casualties and significant material damages. Indeed, fire claims the lives of many victims and destroys property and environment every year. The losses are in the majority of cases very heavy and especially when the fire hits a hydrocarbon structure. The Hydrocarbon industry is unfortunately on a daily basis the target of this unforgiving enemy that can turn everything into ashes in just few moments. Consequently, the task of fighting and extinguishing of pot or tank fires is often a difficult and time-consuming process. The use of fluid gases or hydrocarbons at temperatures close to their ignition temperature can therefore make each plant, workshop, transport, or even activity as dangerous and any failure can cause a devastating fire. The causes of this type of fire are various and of different origins. The most common are the natural causes such as lightning, floods, earthquakes in addition to technical causes ex, leaks and organizational or human ones such as overflow during filling, maintenance or welding. Hence, the increasing interest in research and accidents analysis and the continuous development of fire extinguishing means. One of the factors that make the task of providing reliable and comprehensive overview of preventive measures more challenging is the multiple uses of hydrocarbons in a large array of working situation. In this context, we will study the dimensioning of the anti-fire network and its conformity with the applicable regulations at the level of the fuel area of the oil company NAFTAL EL KHROUB. Our work aims to answer the questions that are always asked: what are the measures to take to eliminate or reduce the consequences of this risk in the event of an accident? As fields of application, we have chosen NAFTAL, which is a joint-stock company, subsidiary of SONATRACH, whose mission is the marketing and distribution of petroleum products.
