Presentation, Management, and Outcomes of Penile Fractures

Abstract: Background: Penile fractures are due to a traumatic rupture of the penile tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum and may result from numerous etiologies. The purpose of our review is to describe the etiology, management, and outcomes of penile fractures. Methods: A literature review was performed. Results: The diagnosis of penile fractures is usually made clinically but can also be made with the assistance of ultrasound or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) imaging when unclear. Cystoscopy should be performed… Show more

“…Alternative surgical approaches include penoscrotal and infrapubic incisions [2,8,17]. Complications associated with degloving approaches include hematoma formation, decreased sensation, infection, post-operative oedema, and skin necrosis [1,18]. Concurrent circumcisions are often performed to reduce the risks of postoperative phimosis, paraphimosis and avascular necrosis [18].…”

“…Complications associated with degloving approaches include hematoma formation, decreased sensation, infection, post-operative oedema, and skin necrosis [1,18]. Concurrent circumcisions are often performed to reduce the risks of postoperative phimosis, paraphimosis and avascular necrosis [18]. However, adult circumcisions have been associated with decreased sexual pleasure, lower orgasm intensity, discomfort or pain, and unusual sensations at the penile shaft [19].…”

“…Airway remodeling, a key feature of persistent asthma, is characterized by abundant extracellular matrix deposition, including collagen. 22 The expression levels of collagen I, collagen III, and αSMA after OVA induction were detected by WB. The results showed that, compared with the control group, OVA induced an increase in collagen I, collagen III, and αSMA but reduced the expression of E-cadherin.…”

“…Penile fracture (PF) is defined as the traumatic tearing of the tunica albuginea of the tumescent penis, resulting in the rupture of one or both of the corpora cavernosa [ 1 ]. PF mainly occurs when unphysiological bending forces are applied to an erect penis during sexual intercourse or due to aggressive penile manipulation.…”
