Presentation a New Method for Determining of Bridge Condition Index by Using Analytical Hierarchy Process

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for determining the bridge condition index (BCI) in concrete bridges, which is based on the views of bridge experts. First, eight indices were defined for a concrete bridge including structure, hydrology, safety, load impact, geotechnical and seismicity, strategic importance, facilities, and finally traffic and pavement. Each index consists of several sub-indices. Next, a series of questionnaires about the relative importance of indices and their sub-indices were prepared and distr… Show more

“…Indeed, using this classification system, it was possible to calculate a CS index which characterizes the degree of degradation of the structure. The obtained CS (8.519) located in the interval [8,10] classifies the structure as highly degraded (Class 3U according to IQOA).…”

“…Since this date, several efforts were made by researchers to perform and improve this method [3][4][5][6][7]. Indeed, the AHP method can be generalized to determine the risks associated with bridges [8][9][10]. Thus, a scoring system is combined to help engineers establish a bridge reinforcement scheme using the AHP approach [11][12][13].…”

“…Concrete serves as the most adaptable building material on the planet. It has the title of "biggest man-made substance" with an average per capita usage exceeding 2 kg [1,2]. Concrete is the preferred material for a wide range of uses including buildings, bridge, roadway pavement, industrial structures, liquid storage structures, retaining structures and so on.…”

“…Track beams are typically made of reinforced concrete materials, and the assessment methods for them have mainly been borrowed from highway bridges. In recent years, a series of bridge condition assessment methods have been established such as reliability theory [4][5] , hierarchical analysis [6] , machine learning [7] , finite element model (FEM) modification [8][9][10] , and so on. The finite element model modification method has garnered significant interest due to its clear physical meaning and strong mechanical analysis capabilities.…”
