Presencia y reproducción del morito común (Plegadis falcinellus (Linnaeus 1766)), en la provincia de Albacete (Castilla-La Mancha)

Abstract

Previous information on Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), in Albacete Province (Castilla-La Mancha, South-East of Spain) was collected and analysed in order to update its status. From September 1994 to November 2022, 443 observations were collected from databases, publications and personal data. They come from 57 locations, most of them near the Endorreic Complex of Pétrola and Corral-Rubio salt lagoons and La Higuera lagoon (Corredor de Almansa). Reproduction has been confirmed in the years 2022 (34-35 pairs), 2021 (5-11 pairs), 2022 (7-8 pairs), nesting either on the ground or on French tamarisks on islets. It has been stated that the Glossy Ibis presence and status has changed from occasional to all-year-round over the last three decades, with a minimum number in winter and maximum in spring. They have spread all over the Lake complex and have bred in three breeding seasons. Regarding Castilla-La Mancha, their breeding in Pétrola may have a great importance contributing to the breeding population expansion in La Mancha Húmeda due to their location halfway between there and wetlands in Mediterranean coast.
