The stereospecific polymerization of isoprene catalyzed by a new class of aluminum hydride derivatives and titanium tetrachloride is described. Such derivatives, the poly-(iminoalanes), are characterized by a polymeric structure (HAlNR), in which R is an alkyl or phenyl group. Peculiar feature of this class of co-catalysts is the ability to give practically gel-free isoprene polymers of high 1.44s content and having a considerably higher molecular weight than that obtained by other aluminum hydride based catalysts. The polymerization process is herein described taking in account reaction variables such as M/Ti mole ratio, catalyst and monomer concentration and polymerization temperature.
