Presença de culicídeos em município de porte médio do Estado de São Paulo e risco de ocorrência de febre do Nilo Ocidental e outras arboviroses

Abstract: RESUMO ABSTRACT Introduction:The objectives for this study were to measure the diversity of Culicidae species, describe their abundance and seasonal variation in São José do Rio Preto, SP, and discuss the risk of arbovirus infections. Methods: The collection of larval and adult mosquitoes was conducted monthly from 2006 to 2007 in an urban area and four sections of forested land. “…The total number of trapped mosquitoes per house was divided into a sufficient number of pools which included 1–20 specimens. Culex species were not identified due to a study indicating that C. quinquefasciatus (80.7%) is the main species circulating in the city, followed by a species of the C. coronator group (9.6%) [20]. …”

This mosquito is a vector for pathogens such as Wuchereria bancrofti, which causes lymphatic fi lariasis (commonly known as elephantiasis), 7 considered the most prevalent parasitosis in the world.…”

“…These Anopheles species, previously reported from Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, were considered responsible for autochthonous cases of malaria in some municipalities in Goiás state (MANOEL et al, 2010). Although Uranotaenia apicalis have been reported in the Brazilian state of São Paulo (DIBO et al, 2011), this is the fi rst report of this specie in the South region of Brazil, regardless this specie is unrelated with vectorborne diseases. Thirty-seven specimens of Phlebotominae (Nyssomyia neivai -0.7% -and Pintomyia pessoai -3.6%) were collected in the crepuscule or night period (Table 1).…”
