The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has remarkable psychological impacts on most of the population worldwide including but not limited to mortality. The most common symptoms observed among individuals have been associated with fear and anxiety at the time of an epidemic. New psychiatric symptoms that people without mental disorders may develop, worsening symptoms in people with psychiatric disorder follow-ups, the psychological impacts of the restrictive measures such as social distancing, isolation, and quarantine on individuals, and the psychological impacts that may be seen in infected individuals and the ones experiencing loss may differ from one another. Apart from the patients with COVID-19 infections, an increase in mental problems has also been reported among the general population; the elderly, children, those with psychiatric disorders, and healthcare professionals during this current health crisis. This article aimed to present the observable psychological and behavioral impacts of the current epidemic on various social groups by synthesizing these impacts with the recent studies and world experiences throughout the former epidemics.

This article examines the response of the Caribbean Public Health Agency and the government of Trinidad and Tobago against the Zika and COVID-19 outbreaks. These contrasting diseases were chosen to examine the surveillance systems and responses and the preventative public health measures that were implemented to protect the population. Health experts were interviewed and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the Caribbean Public Health Agency and the government of Trinidad and Tobago were prepared to respond to the Zika outbreak. However, there is much to be improved in the case of COVID-19. Concrete policy recommendations are discussed.

IntroductionTo reduce the transmission of COVID-19, regulations included the use of cloth masks, sanitising regularly, maintaining social distance and having minimal personal contact. COVID-19 affected many different groups of people including service providers and users of correctional centres. In this protocol, we aim to establish evidence on the challenges and coping strategies adopted by the incarcerated and service providers of the incarcerated during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods and analysisIn this scoping review, we will use the Arksey and O’Malley framework. We will consult PubMed, PsycInfo, SAGE, JSTOR, African Journals and Google Scholar as our databases to search for evidence, and run a continuous search of articles from June 2022 until we conduct an analysis to ensure that our search results are updated. Two reviewers will independently screen the titles, abstracts and full texts for inclusion. All results will be compiled, and duplicates will be removed. Discrepancies and conflicts will be discussed with the third reviewer. All articles that meet the full-text criteria will be included for data extraction. Results will be reported in line with the review objectives and the Donabedian conceptual framework.DisseminationEthical approval of the study will not be applicable in this scoping review. Our findings will be disseminated in different ways, such as publishing in peer-reviewed journals and to other key correctional system stakeholders, as well as submitting a policy brief for prison decision makers and policy makers.
