Preparation, Spectroscopic Characterization and Theoretical Studies of Transition Metal Complexes with 1-[(2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylimino)methyl]naphthalene-2-ol Ligand

Abstract: A new Schiff base [1-((2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylimino)methyl)naphthalene-2-ol] (HL) has been synthesized by condensing (2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde) with (2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethylamine). In turn, its transition metal complexes were prepared having the general formula; [Pt(IV)Cl2(L)2], [Re(V)Cl2(L)2]Cl and [Pd(L)2], 2K[M(II)Cl2(L)2] where M(II) = Co, Ni, Cu] are reported. Ligand as well as metal complexes are characterized by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, UV-visible, 13C & 1H NMR, mass, elemental analys… Show more

“…The bands at around 3,444, 3,185, 2,993, 2,833, 1,672, and 1,598 cm −1 are attributed to stretching vibration (OH) of the phenolic ring, C–H aromatic, C–H aliphatic, C–H aldehyde stretching vibration, CN of azomethine group, and CC aromatic, respectively. [ 16–23 ] The infrared spectra of Ni(L 2 ) 2 , Pd(L 2 ) 2 , and Pt(L 2 ) 2 Cl 2 complexes are shown in Figures 3–5 and Table 2. The band at around 3,450, 3,441, and 3,394 cm −1 is attributed to stretching vibration (OH) of the phenolic ring.…”

“…They can act as ligands during coordination and meanwhile can behave as materials for numerous potential applications in the fields of catalysis, materials, and analytical titrations. [ 1 ] These compounds have electronic and structural abilities optoelectronic and electronic applications. Imines have been widely used in molecular electronic devices, [ 2 ] chemosensor fabrications, [ 3 ] and hole‐transporting materials.…”

“…Schiff bases having the general structure R-CH=N-Ar (R and Ar are aromatic and aliphatic groups, respectively) result from the condensation of primary amines with ketones or aldehydes. [1][2][3] They are characterized by -N CH-(imine) groups, which have biology performance such as antimicrobial, antitumor, anti-inflammation, and anticancer. [4] Tetradentate Schiff bases especially those with a N 2 O 2 donor set, resulting from the condensation of aliphatic diamines and aromatic such as dimedone with amine compounds derivatives, have an antibacterial effect on both gram negative and gram positive bacteria possibly due to the presence of azomethine groups (imines), which may interfere with bacterial growth.…”
