Preparation, optical characterization and stability of gold nanoparticles by facile methods

Abstract: The influence of synthesis method, cycles quantity and sonication time in the gold nanoparticles size and plasmon resonance were analyzed to establish the synthesis with smaller nanoparticle size and higher absorbance. Gold nanoparticles were analyzed by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and surface electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the nanoparticles obtained by microwave have bigger size but higher absorption. These nanoparticles were analyzed one year after its synth… Show more

“…Conversely, Mie and coworkers demonstrated that the oscillation modes depend on the particle size and as the size decreases, the maximum absorption also decreases, events that we observed when AuNPs were conjugated with BP [24,25].…”

“…In this study, we conjugated the AuNPs with the bioactive polyphenolic compounds (BP) of B. procumbens, which promote tissue repair and wound healing [8]. The characterization of AuNPs synthesis and AuNP-BP conjugation was performed using UV-visible spectrophotometry, FTIR spectra, DLS, TEM and electrophoretic light scattering to determine their optical properties, size, concentration, agglomeration state, hints on NP shape, surface composition, ligand binding, and hydrodynamic size [14,24]. The conjugation of BP to AuNPs shifted the nanoparticles' absorbance from 520 nm to 524 nm.…”

“…This estimate was calculated using Equation (1) . where M is 197 g/mol, which is the atomic mass of gold (Au), D is the average diameter of nanoparticles in nanometers, N A is Avogadro's number of element atoms (6.02214179 × 10 23 ), and ρ is the gold density (1.93 × 10 −20 g/nm 3 ) [ 68 ].…”

“…However, stability is not only influenced by the selected surface chemistry, but also by different factors such as aggregation state, nanoparticle composition, shape and size, for which zeta potential, DLS and UV–visible techniques are crucial. For instance, a simple broad-spectrum technique used to determine nanoparticle stability over time consists of following the stability of the plasmon resonance signal using the UV–visible technique [ 69 ]. Due to all of these reasons, we employed DLS, zeta potential and UV–visible techniques to characterize the synthesized gold nanoparticles and nanocomplexes.…”
