Preparation of Tris-Tetrazole-Based Metallogels and Stabilization of Silver Nanoparticles: Studies on Reduction Catalysis and Self-Healing Property

Abstract: An ionic multifunctional gelator molecule triethylammonium 5-(3,5-bis((1H-tetrazol-5-yl)carbamoyl)benzamido)tetrazol-1-ide G7 is synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic tools and mass spectrometry. G7 tends to form a stable organogel in a mixture of N,N-dimethylformamide/dimethylsulfoxide (DMF/DMSO) and water. Introduction of different metal perchlorate salts in a DMSO solution of G7 furnished a series of metallogels M 1 G7, M 2 G7, M 3 G7, M 4 G7, M 5 G7, M 6 G7, and M 7 G7 [M1 = Fe(… Show more

“…Tricarboxamide and tetrazolic moieties are ideal candidates for gel formation, as evident from our earlier work and other literature reports. 26,27,[30][31][32][33][34] The synthesis of tris(tetrazole) compound G8 was done by secondary amine bond formation between cyanuric chloride and 5-aminotetrazole monohydrate in the presence of triethylamine (Scheme 1). A yellowish white precipitate was obtained.…”

“…The design and fabrication of a metallogel utilizing a low molecular weight gelator (LMWG) are of profound interest owing to multiple aspects, such as versatility, easy availability, good solubility and inducing smooth gelation even at very low concentration, cost effectiveness, among others. [57][58][59] Literature reports on LMWGs highlight molecules with specific organo-functional groups, such as carboxylic acids, 16,17,[60][61][62][63][64][65] amines, 17,[66][67][68] amino acids, 59 N-donating heterocyclic components like triazole, 69 tetrazole, 70,71 and others, as tremendously fruitful in terms of their gelling characteristic features. Interactions operating among the LMWG molecules provide 1D fibrillar networks that entangle among themselves to form a 3D network called self-assembled fibrillar networks (SAFiNs).…”

“…are widely utilized for the reduction of nitroaromatics due to their high catalytic activity . However, high cost and sometimes side reactions of noble-metal catalysts inevitably limit their large-scale application. , Additionally, the deactivation of noble-metal catalysts has also been a long-term problem in the industry for the last several decades. These drawbacks do not meet the industrial needs and limit their wide application in nitroaromatics reduction. To address the above issues, multiple strategies have been developed for the selective reduction of nitroaromatics, such as introducing external additives or a second alloying metal. …”
