Preparation of tricalcium phosphate–calcium alginate composite flat sheet membranes and their application for protein release

Abstract: Tricalcium phosphate-calcium alginate (TCP-CA) composite flat sheet membranes with the thickness of 150-200 lm were prepared by Ca 21 crosslinking of TCP and sodium alginate (SA) aqueous solution. The composite flat sheet membranes were characterized by SEM, FTIR, DSC and BET method. The mechanical properties of the membranes were tested with a tensile testing machine in wet form. Hemoglobin (HB) was immobilized in the following four matrices (1) HB was adsorbed onto the TCP powders directly, (2) HB and SA dis… Show more

“…Such foams were shown to be a good carrier for antibiotic tetracycline [ 735 ]. Several biocomposites of CaPO 4 with alginates have been prepared [ 387 , 556 , 557 , 560 , 655 , 740 , 741 , 742 , 743 , 744 ]. For example, porous HA/alginate composites based on hydrogels were prepared both biomimetically [ 655 ] and by using a freeze-drying technique [ 740 ].…”

“…Since the organic-mineral interface in bones is predominantly polysaccharides [805], various biocomposites of CaPO 4 and polysaccharides, such as alginates [413,609,610,612,715,[806][807][808][809], as well as chitosan [426,450,468,490,519,556,[631][632][633][634][635][636][637][638][639][640][641][642][643][644]678,696,702,[810][811][812][813][814][815][816][817][818][819][820][821] and chitin [416,489,[822][823]…”

“…The amounts of Hb released at different times were detected by TU-1901 ultraviolet spectrophotometer. 3 Three types of kinetic models were utilized to describe the release prole, and the correlation coefficient values (R 2 ) demonstrated how well the models described the release process. They are as follows:…”

“…However, protein release from many materials shows burst release behaviour due to the weak bonds between proteins and the carriers. [1][2][3][4] Molecular imprinting is a promising and evolving technology to synthesize tailor-made materials with complementary binding sites and specic recognition cavities for the template. 5,6 The molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) can inherently act as a reservoir for drug molecules and increase the residence time of the drug due to the specic recognition cavities.…”
