Preparation of Titanium Deposit in Chloride Melts

Abstract: The quality of titanium depends largely on the morphology of titanium deposit, which can be affected by electrokinetic parameters during the electrolysis. To obtain titanium deposit, titanium dichloride was prepared successfully by using a titanium sponge to reduce titanium tetrachloride in NaCl-KCl. Electroanalytical methods including cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry, and square wave voltammetry were employed to investigate the cathodic behavior of Ti 2 + . The results proved that the reduction of Ti(I… Show more

“…Figure 3 is the line of the iτ 1/2 vs. cathodic current density at liquid cathode. That indicates the data measured by experiment plotted agree with Sand's law 7 . (1) where i is the applied current density, τ the transitions time, n number of the electron transfer, F the Faraday constant, C bulk concentrations of the Ti x+ and D the diffusions coefficient.…”

“…In order to reduce the cost, titanium oxycarbides could be obtained by carbothermal reduction of titanium‐iron ores . However, the oxygen content in the TiC 1− x O x anode material has great effect on the product . The lack of thermodynamic data and structure properties of TiC 1− x O x with different oxygen content has restricted the further research, so it is very important to evaluate the thermodynamic and structure properties of TiC 1− x O x with different oxygen content.…”

“…4 (b) has only one cathodic peak (about -1.6 V vs. Cl 2 /Cl -). 28,29 = 0.61 n The result indicates that the titanium (III) ions are liable to be directly reduced as titanium at liquid cathode.…”
