Preparation of single-handed helical carbonaceous nanotubes using 3-aminophenol-formaldehyde resin

Abstract: Single-handed helical 3-aminophenol-formaldehyde resin nanotubes were prepared using an external supramolecular templating method; the nanotubes were formed via the adsorption and polycondensation of 3-aminophenol-formaldehyde resin oligomers on the surface of organic selfassemblies. After carbonization at 1400 C, single-handed helical carbonaceous nanotubes were obtained. A Raman spectrum, X-ray diffraction pattern, and high resolution transmission electron microscopy image showed that the carbon in the nanot… Show more

“…However, with the addition of 3-aminophenol or m-diaminobenzene, twisted nanoribbons are formed in a mixture of water and methanol. [22,23] The handedness of the nanoribbons is determined by the chirality of the amino acid residues. LL-1 (or DD-1) and 3-aminophenol can also co-assemble into twisted nanoribbons.…”

“…Therefore, 3-aminophenol or m-diaminobenzene (both of which show high reactivity with formaldehyde) have been chosen as a starting material. The procedure using 3-aminophenol-formaldehyde was shown as follows: [22] C 15 H 31 CO-L-Phg (or C 15 H 31 CO-D-Phg) and 3-aminophenol were dissolved in anhydrous methanol at 608C to form a homogeneous solution. After the addition of water, a pale blue suspension was obtained.…”
