“…Although the primary focus of research in our laboratory has traditionally been ROMP, we were interested in designing a general process that could be applied toward the functionalization of other polymers as well. Of particular interest was the modification of poly(styrene‐ co ‐vinylbenzyl chloride) sidechains, which has been carried out using a variety of nucleophiles, including sulfur‐based species . In this vein, we were curious as to whether or not reactions similar to the thio‐bromo click reactions described above could be used to modify the benzyl‐chloride‐containing copolymer 10 .…”

“…In this case, the parent polymer is slowly added to a solution containing the bivalent crosslinker. Successful examples of the continuous addition approach in external crosslinker mediated SCNP folding include reactions of isocyanates with amine crosslinkers to form urea linkages, metal complexation of M 2 4+ paddlewheel folding motifs, photochemical crosslinking and Thiol‐Michael additions . The continuous addition procedure, thus, presents a versatile route for both external and internal crosslinker mediated folding, to suppress the parasitic interchain reaction and achieve an efficient scale up of SCNP synthesis.…”

“…In our previous work, we introduced single chain nanoparticles via photoinduced radical coupling reaction. Pendant benzophenone containing copolymers were subjected to intramolecular crosslinking process under UV–light illumination at high dilution conditions.…”

“…Linear copolymers can undergo chemical interactions either by their pendant units or external crosslinkers to achieve intramolecularly crosslinked polymeric nanoparticles. To gain single chain nanoparticles, varying synthetic methods have been carried out such as Menschutkin quaternization chemistry, stepwise folding, Diels–Alder click, benzocyclobutene‐coupling chemistry, click cyclo‐addition, photocrosslinking, and host–guest interactions . These intramolecularly crosslinked nanoparticles have found various applications in gas capturing, controlled release, and nanocomposites …”
