Preparation of Silver-Deposited Aromatic Polysulfonamide Fibers with Excellent Performance via Electroless Nanoplating Using a Chlorine-Aided Silver Activation System

Abstract: Silverized aromatic polysulfonamide (PSA) fibers were prepared through a novel chlorine-aided silver activation system followed by electroless nanoplating in the present work. The Ag/AgCl interfacial layer was first introduced to the fiber surface via successive immersion in NaClO-HCl solution, AgNO3 solution, and NaBH4 solution, whose activating and anchoring abilities were then employed to coat an adhesive and uniform silver layer onto PSA fibers by electroless nanoplating. The obtained silverized PSA fibers… Show more

“…The fit peaks at 200.15 eV and 200.74 eV were attributed to the Cl (2p 1/2 ), and Cl(2p 3/2 ) of O=C–N–Cl, respectively. However, the fit peaks at approximately 201.45 eV and 202.35 eV corresponded to the Cl(2p 1/2 ) and Cl(2p 3/2 ) of C 6 H 5 Cl, respectively, which indicated that O=C–N–Cl have been formed by N-chlorination of the amidic nitrogen, and that C 6 H 5 Cl formed due to the Orton rearrangement of O=C–N–Cl during the chlorine treatment [28,29].…”

“…The SE of the AgNP/polysulfonamide fabric achieved 78.5 dB in the frequency range of 300–3000 MHz. 67 Cl 2 + H 2 O ⇄ HClO + HCl–NCl– + HCl ⇄ –NH– + Cl 2 AgNO 3 + HCl → AgCl + HNO 3 AgCl + e − → Ag + Cl − Some interesting works have also been reported, in which AgNP/polymer fabrics were prepared by chemical reduction. The reducing agents are mainly chemical compounds containing amidogen, such as ammonia, polydopamine (PDA), triethanolamine, NaBH 4 , polyacrylonitrile (PAN), polyaniline (PANI), and polypyrrole (PPy).…”

“…It has been reported that in the process of pretreatment, silver nitrate has been used by replacing the palladium compound as an activation solution for electroless plating to form a silver catalytic center on the surface of the fiber [ 41 ], while nitrate is also considered as a potentially hazardous [ 42 ]. NaClO-HCl silver activation system also proved to be a good applicability in the silver-coating industry [ 43 ]. But these activation steps all prolong the time of electroless silver-plating, which is not conducive to production.…”
