Preparation of segmented semifluorinated poly(aryl ether)s from aromatic trifluorovinyl ethers and oligo(ethylene glycol)s

Abstract: A series of new segmented semifluorinated polyaryl ethers (PAEs) containing a biphenyl segmented by semifluorinated oligoethylene (SFE) units were prepared by nucleophilic addition of a commercial oligo(ethylene glycol)s to 4,4 0 -bis(4-trifluorovinyloxy)biphenyl. These new thermoplastics were characterized by 1 H and F 19 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR). Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis displayed number average molecular weigh… Show more

“…As a result, they find wide-ranging applications in medical devices, aviation automobiles, electronic, and electrical application and other fields. [22][23][24][25] The introduction of a large nonplanar side groups on the polymer backbone can increase the distance between the molecular chain and destroy the symmetry and regularity of the molecular structure. This, in turn, increases the free volume and achieve the purpose of reducing the dielectric constant.…”

“…As one of the representatives of high‐performance polymers, polyaryl ether materials have the advantages of high‐temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, high strength and toughness, and low water absorption etc. As a result, they find wide‐ranging applications in medical devices, aviation automobiles, electronic, and electrical application and other fields 22–25 . The introduction of a large nonplanar side groups on the polymer backbone can increase the distance between the molecular chain and destroy the symmetry and regularity of the molecular structure.…”

“…[1][2][3] Semifluorinated poly aryl ethers are an emerging class of thermoplastics that maintain high thermooxidative stability while often exhibiting solution and melt processability. [4,5] Recent advancements included semifluorinated poly(aryl ether)s prepared with a quadrephenyls, [6] segmented with oligo(ethylene glycol)s, [7] perfluorocyclopentenyl, [8] and trifluoromethyl groups. [9] Perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) aryl ether polymers are a wellestablished class of semifluorinated poly aryl ethers that are known for high thermal stability, chemical stability, optical clarity, and solution processability.…”
