Preparation of Porous Anhydrous MgCl2 Particles by Spray Drying Process

Abstract: Abstract. Polyethylene (PE) is indispensable materials in daily lives. To produce PE, the catalyst was needed in the reaction. Ziegler-Natta catalysts were mostly used which consisted of TiCl4 on the MgCl2 supports. Polyethylene particle was reported to replicate the shape of the catalyst particles or catalyst support particles. Therefore, the MgCl2 supports need to satisfy various requirements regarding particle morphology such as shape, particle size with uniform size distribution as well as the porosity. In… Show more

“…This is in agreement with results described in the literature about the small reflection peak at 2θ = 15° [1,15] and the partly merged-reflection peaks at 2θ = 30° and 2θ = 35° [45][46][47].…”

“…The PXRD (Figure a) analysis of this sample shows that there was no formation of the Mg(OH)Cl or any other byproduct formation. Furthermore, this dehydrated product even showed a structure similar to the activated MgCl 2 . From both XRD analysis and sample weight analysis, it is speculated that the dehydrated product is actually a fractional hydrate MgCl 2 ·nH 2 O (0 < n < 1).…”

“…Furthermore, this dehydrated product even showed a structure similar to the activated MgCl 2 . 28 From both XRD analysis and sample weight analysis, it is speculated that the dehydrated product is actually a fractional hydrate MgCl 2 •nH 2 O (0 < n < 1). This obtained material was characterized by measuring surface area using the BET (Brunauer−Emmett−Teller) method with N 2 gas at 77 K and pore size distribution analysis using the BJH (Brunauer− Joyner−Halenda) method, a typical technique that can be used for determining micro/mesoporosity in nanoporous materi-als.…”

“…Therefore ideal supports provide catalysts with high activity for the production of polyolefin. Various methods have been reported for producing support for Ziegler Natta catalyst such as ball milling [21][22][23][24][25], melt quenching [26], seeding process [27], spray drying [28][29][30][31] and emulsion [32,33,34,35].…”
