Preparation of Poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid)/Copper(I) Oxide Composite through Melt-mixing and Its Near Infrared Absorption by Sulfuration

Abstract: Reducing of copper (I) oxide (Cu 2 O) particles was attempted to prepare an organic/inorganic nanocomposite during melt mixing of poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) through cracking of the particles by shear stress in the molten polymer and ablation of Cu 2 O by carboxylic acid groups. The method in this study, however, was not effective for the reducing of micron-ordered particle to nano-or submicron-ordered particle. The copper components in the composite were sulfurized, and then two types of copper sulfi… Show more

“…The angles between the polarized plane of the laser and the drawn direction of the nylon 6 were 0 (parallel), 30, 60, and 908 (perpendicular). A strong band assigned to I À 5 (170 cm 21 ) was observed at 08, whereas the band at 230 cm 21 (assigned to I À 3 ) was mainly observed with perpendicular polarization. This means that polyiodide ions were oriented as shown in Figure 9, and this agreed well with reports by Murthy and coworkers 42,43 and Lee and Porter.…”

“…[15][16][17][18][19] We have reported preparative methods and optical properties for some nanocomposites with nanoparticles (e.g., silver metal, silver sulfide, copper sulfide and copper iodide) introduced into a matrix of nylon 6 or polyacrylic acid. [20][21][22] AgI is an attractive inorganic compound, and thus it is considered that AgI is a good candidate as a component of a nanocomposite material. Composites with AgI introduced into an inorganic matrix have been reported; for example, AgI nanoparticles were precipitated in-situ in nanopores of alumina prepared by the anodizing process.…”

“…Based on this advantage, we have prepared organic-inorganic nanocomposite materials with nanoparticles such as Cu metal and copper sulfide introduced into a polymer matrix, and the optical properties have been investigated with respect to application as an optical functional material. [14][15][16] Recently, studies of solid-type electrolytes for application in solar cells and secondary batteries have been performed as part of developments in the electronics industry. Well-studied solid electrolytes (including gel-type electrolytes) have included inorganic crystalline compounds, inorganic glassy compounds, and polymer complexes such as polyether containing alkali metal salts.…”
